While returning from more remote settings in Strathcona, we were heading down the Island Highway (19A), thinking we might spend our last night on Vancouver Island at Rathtrevor Provincial Park, near Parksville, when suddenly on the left, there it was… paradise! Now we typically prefer provincial, national, or state parks, not to mention forestry sites, to set up for the night. But this journey is about finding weird stuff too, and the tackier the better. So when we spotted the castle, giant shoehouse, mini golf, bumper boats and a windmill all in one convenient location, WITH an RV park attached, it was too good to pass by.
The RV park, located in the back, just happened to have an ocean view and direct access to the beach. We were surprised – shocked really – that the grassy sites came with full hookups (electricity, water and septic), wifi, hot showers, laundry and a 2 for 1 coupon for mini golf, all for the low price of 30 bucks. What a deal (Rathtrevor would have been $35)!
So after doing a few loads of laundry (Mama Bear is still in shock about not having daily access to a front-loading W&D), the Bear went for yet another swim, then we cashed our coupon and had a round of mini golf. This truly is paradise. If only golf wasn’t so maddening…
Really enjoying your posts. Played that course with Alex when she was little.

looks like a fun place – although I think Alan’s golf stance leave a bit to be desired!

The bumper boats are great, too. My kids preferred the other mini golf closer to Rathtrevor.
